SUMMER

PROGRAMS 2025

Randolph-Macon Academy and the Austin family have enjoyed a longstanding relationship. My two uncles, Jim and Jack, graduated from R-MA during the peak of World War II. My brother Douglas (’79) and I each attended as boarding students for four years. Our father, Harry Jr., served as a board trustee for several years in the mid-1980s.

In late 2020, I retired as the President of James Austin Company, our fourth-generation family business based in Pittsburgh, which was founded in 1889. Following my graduation from Bucknell University with a degree in business, I was commissioned into the US Army Reserves, serving our nation for 14 years.

Additionally, I served as a bank director for Mars National Bank for 24 years. My board memberships have included an ESOP company, a retirement and nursing home, an advertising agency, and active participation in Rotary International. Early in my career, I earned a private pilot license.

Notably, I proudly served Randolph-Macon Academy as a board trustee for two terms, comprising 11 and 16 years, respectively. After a respite, I am now honored to return for another term of service.

I hold Randolph-Macon Academy in high regard for the foundation it provided me, fostering commitment and purpose in my work, family, friendships, and community engagements. During my tenure at R-MA, I developed a stronger confidence (my Rise) that equipped me to face the challenges encountered over the years.
