2026 Summer Programs
Join Randolph-Macon Academy for an exciting three-week summer experience designed for rising 8th–12th graders. All programs run June 28–July 17, 2026.
R-MA offers three dynamic options:
Military Operations Course (MOC)
A selective, full-day program that introduces students to modern military concepts, leadership development, and hands-on skills such as navigation, tactical care, communication, and mission planning. The course concludes with a team-based capstone mission.
Aviation Summer Camp
Limited to 16 students, this immersive aviation program features flight training in R-MA aircraft and simulators, drone piloting and data collection, STEM-based challenges, and field trips that explore real aviation and aerospace careers.
Academic Summer Program
Students can take remedial (credit) or prep (non-credit) courses in English, math, biology, ESOL, and cybersecurity. Small classes, individualized instruction, and a structured schedule help students strengthen skills, recover credit, or prepare for the upcoming school year.
All students enjoy supervised activities, renovated dorm spaces, and a supportive campus community throughout their stay.

Remedial and Prep Program
The Academic Summer Program provides structured learning, small classes, and individualized support to help students get ready for a successful school year. Students may enroll in either repeat-credit courses or preparatory classes, depending on their needs and goals.
Students who are repeating a course for credit take a full-day academic schedule. This allows them to rebuild skills, master key concepts, and return to school on track and confident. Students taking a course to prepare for the upcoming school year attend a half-day academic schedule focused on skill building, academic readiness, and strong study habits.

Who This Program Serves
Students who want to strengthen academic skills, recover or reinforce credit in a supportive setting, prepare for next-level coursework, build strong study routines and confidence, and experience structured boarding school life.
Quick Guide
Remedial course: repeat-credit class for students who need to retake a subject and master the material to stay on track academically
Prep course: skill-building class designed to prepare students for success in the upcoming school year
ESOL: English language instruction and support for multilingual learners, resulting in a non-credit certificate of completion.
Military Operations Course
Limited to 28 students
The Military Operations Course is a selective and immersive program for students interested in future military pathways, leadership development, and hands-on skills training. Inspired by the United States Air Force’s Agile Combat Employment and Multi-Capable Airmen concepts, this course introduces students to modern military thinking, teamwork, and mission planning.
Students receive guided instruction and practical experience in areas such as close-quarters movement, land navigation, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, operational planning, patrolling techniques, communication skills, and signals management. Training is physical, team-based, and focused on building confidence, discipline, and problem-solving under pressure.
The program concludes with a mission exercise where students plan and carry out a scenario in a simulated contested environment. This capstone event reinforces readiness, adaptability, and effective decision-making as a team.
This course is well-suited for students who are motivated, eager to challenge themselves, and interested in exploring military structure and leadership in a structured and supportive setting.
Aviation Summer Camp

Limited to 16 students
Students will explore aviation through hands-on flight training in R-MA aircraft and simulators, lessons with our experienced instructors, and interactive sessions with guest speakers. Weekly field trips deepen learning and expose students to a wide range of aviation career paths. Students receive high-quality instruction both in the air and on the ground while discovering the opportunities available in aerospace, commercial and private aviation, engineering, and related fields.
Aviation Summer Camp also includes dynamic drone training focused on unmanned flight. Students receive practical training in drone piloting, aerial photography, and advanced data collection used in mapping and 3D modeling. They also learn about the pathway toward earning the FAA Remote Pilot Certification. Testing for this certification must be completed separately at an FAA testing center.
In addition to technical skills, aviation students compete in drone obstacle courses, experience the thrill of drone racing, and work together on creative missions such as drone art and search-and-rescue challenges. Each day combines meaningful STEM learning with high-energy activities that build teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence.
Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity gives students a strong introduction to the modern cyber landscape and the skills used to protect information and technology systems. Students explore foundational topics such as cyber law and policy, Linux fundamentals, networking basics, risk assessment, cryptography, and widely used cybersecurity tools.
Course activities align with CYBER.ORG’s national cybersecurity curriculum and help prepare students for future study and industry-recognized certifications, including the CompTIA Security+ certification. Students will problem-solve, practice hands-on skills, and learn how cybersecurity professionals work to defend digital environments in both the public and private sectors.
This course is ideal for students who are curious about technology, interested in cyber careers, or want to build foundational skills in a growing and in-demand field.
