“I chose R-MA because I was looking for a school that would challenge me at a higher level academically. My brother attended R-MA during his middle school years and went on to the United States Coast Guard Academy. Seeing where his experience took him made me believe R-MA could help me reach my own goals as well. I was also drawn to the school’s cultural diversity and its proximity to Washington, D.C.. Being here has allowed me to expand my worldview and connect with students from around the world, which has broadened my perspective. Before R-MA, I attended an International Baccalaureate school in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the academic structure was very different. I found that I connected more with the traditional U.S. system, as it better suited my learning style.
What I enjoy most about R-MA is the athletics and the strong bonds formed within the community. I value being able to see my friends every day, whether it’s playing soccer on the field or spending time together in Student Services on the weekends. I also enjoy learning about my peers’ different backgrounds and experiences, and how those have shaped who they are. My class is full of highly motivated and goal-driven individuals who understand the opportunities in front of them and strive to make the most of them.
Academically, I have consistently achieved the Dean’s List since my freshman year. I have also held a cadre position at R-MA, which has strengthened my accountability, communication, and adaptability as a leader.
During my time at R-MA, I have received several awards, including Graphic Design Student of the Year for demonstrating creativity and skill. I also participated in the National French Exam, earning both a Silver and Bronze medal. In athletics, I was recognized as 2nd Team All-Conference in soccer. I have also participated in baseball, wrestling, tennis, and soccer throughout my time at R-MA.
Beyond academics and athletics, I have been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, including Interact Club, Connect Club, International Students Association, Model United Nations, EcoSphere, French Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Hive, and the Student Life Committee. I have also participated in drill events, carried the school banner during a New York parade, served in Color Guard, taken part in aviation by flying planes, and even had the opportunity to fire the school cannon.
R-MA has provided me with a unique experience that I believe I could not have found anywhere else. The academics, opportunities, and relationships I have built here are something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
