PROGRAMS 2025

What is a Post Graduate Year?

If you’re a senior in high school, you can feel some serious pressure to go off to college like the majority of your classmates. But what if you don’t feel like you’re totally ready for that next step? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! The idea of a post graduate, or PG, year has become more widespread than you might realize.

But what exactly is a PG year? A PG year is a gap year in between graduating from high school and going on to college or university. It provides you with some extra time to prepare yourself. When starting a search for the right type of program for you, you first need to address what the point of a PG year would be. Are you interested in utilizing it to get into a sports program in college? If so, you would want to look for an athletic post graduate program that offers you the chance to sharpen your skills so you can go on to a more prestigious athletic program.  Or, are you more interested in a purely academic side of things? If you would like to bring up your grades, SAT score, or learn better study skills prior to applying for college, then one that focuses on college prep is what you’re looking for.

So do your research! There are a bunch of awesome schools out there (including our own Randolph-Macon Academy) that offer programs to help you be more prepared for the next big step in your life- COLLEGE. There’s bound to be one out there that will be your perfect fit!

PS- Check in next week to see what we have to offer a post graduate!
