Warren County Sheriff’s Office Brings “Distracted Driving” to R-MA

This event has been cancelled as the simulator car is in need of repair.

On Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 2:00-3:30 pm, the Warren County Sheriff’s Department will provide a Distracted Driving Simulator to the junior and senior cadets at Randolph-Macon Academy. This important event will provide a firsthand experience of the dangers that may occur through distracted driving. Through the use of "drinking goggles" and live texting from volunteers, students will be placed in the driver’s seat and will be able to drive the vehicle (set on computerized wheel stabilizers that allow the vehicle to turn in real time) to experience the effects of drinking and driving (after 1, 2, 3 and more drinks), as well as see the effects of driving while receiving and sending texts.

This will be an educational, informative and fun experience for R-MA students, especially given the continuing concerns today’s drivers face with texting and driving and drinking and driving.

Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), founded in 1892, is a college-preparatory, coeducational day and boarding school for students in grades 6 through 12.  Students in grades 9-12 participate in R-MA’s 91st Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and have the option to participate in a unique flight program. R-MA is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is located in Front Royal, VA.
