Thursday April 17th Lacrosse, Golf, and Tennis Results

Lacrosse:
Yesterday the team traveled to Highland to take on the perennial powerhouse Hawks. The jackets had a lot of energy going into the game and rode the momentum to a 12-6 victory; scoring goals at the last second of the half and final game horn (Brook Blair and Nick Zavala).

After starting the game a little sloppy, the teams were in a low scoring one goal game at the half. Unfortunately after a goal by Peter Blair we had a three minute non releasable penalty and that is where we turned the game around. For 2:45 seconds of the penalty we worked hard in our defensive end and only allowed one shot. The Hawks did score during their man up but the energy boost our defense gave us during the man down helped fuel us for the fourth quarter.

With tremendous effort at the face off X, Ben Gillis and Nick Zavala helped take control of the game. Slayton Speer and Garret Cavanaugh provided a spark with tremendous ground ball and transition play.  After some long possessions the Jackets were finally able to break down the Highland defense and tally a few goals, including a hat trick by Nick Zavala. Brook Blair, Peter Blair, and Slayton Speer also put points on the board in a great D.A.C. victory.

As always we had tremendous play by Jon Moore in net and the defense tightened up in the second half to only allow three goals.

Next week we play two pivotal conference games.  At home on Wednesday vs.Trintiy Christian and on Friday at Wakefield School, in a rematch of the regular season championship from last year.

Golf:

Although the R-MA golf team lost two matches on Thursday, April 17, they recorded their best scores of the season and qualified for the DAC Tournament to be held on Monday, May 12. The Jackets traveled to Fauquier Springs Country Club to play against Highland and Tandem Friends. The R-MA team played well even though they lost to both teams. The scores were Highland 165, Tandem 190, and R-MA 196 in the four man scoring system. Using the three best scores the results were Highland 122, Tandem 135, and R-MA 141. Leading the way for R-MA was Bill Choi who recorded his best round of the year, thus far, with a 41. Everyone on the team scored well with Jake Ko also having his best round of this young season with a 47. Tommy Yu shot a 53 and both Joseph Silek and Gordon Anderson shot 55s. James Christoph was right behind them with a 56. There has been a tremendous improvement in the scoring of the team after Spring Break.

Next week the Jackets will host Trinity of Fairfax on Tuesday and Middleburg Academy on Wednesday. Both matches will start at 4:00 at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The temperature for next week's matches looks good at this time, with possibilities of spring showers.
