Varsity Soccer
The Jackets really put in a shift against last season's tournament champions Seton in the first half, restricting them to one goal from open play and another from a fortunate set piece as Seton took a lead of 2-0 at the half. In the second half, R-MA continued to play strong counter attacking soccer against a much more experienced opponent and managed to pull a goal back when JJ Banek-Gabelle switched from GK to attacking center mid to make the score 3-1. In the end, Seton ran out 5-1 winners, but the Jackets continue to improve with their team play and performance.
Middle School Cross Country
It was a hot October race today as the Yellow Jackets hosted another Middle School Cross Country conference race. With temperatures in the 90s, coaches from all the teams were concerned how the rising temperatures would affect their runners. While some of the visiting competitors were clearly affected by the heat, the R-MA Middle School runners rose to the challenge and secured notches within the standings. Most notably, Ben M., Christian M., and Justin N. all secured the 8th, 9th, and 10th placings from the beginning, advancing the R-MA boys to third place overall for the day. For the girls, Kamila Y. ran her fastest race and took 3rd place, while Layla D. took 10th place, helping to advance the R-MA girls to third place as well.
As the runners prepare for the championship race in two weeks, the coaches are proud of the improvements and successes that all of the Middle School Cross Country runners have had this season. On average, these hard-working athletes were able to drop 2:08 from their time from the first race to today. In fact, six out of the fourteen members of the team surpassed this average, some even dropping over four minutes off their race times. This drastic improvement didn’t happen overnight, nor did it come without a lot of perseverance and sweat. The Yellow Jackets have certainly set themselves up nicely for the upcoming championship race and are ready to show the other teams what they are truly capable of achieving.
