Varsity Soccer
The Jackets faced the toughest week of the season as they play last year's regular season champions in Wakefield and tournament winners in Seton. Away to Wakefield the Jackets came up against a team loaded with experienced travel players, but managed to go toe to toe with them for the first 15 minutes, even creating some of the clearer chances with fast breaks. However, ultimately the experience told and Wakefield took their chances well to take a 3-0 lead at the half. The Jackets started brightly in the second half and immediately pulled one back with a shot from the wing by Joseph Agbo-Afotey. The game looked much more balanced again until Wakefield added to their lead and ended up winning 6-1. Given the vast difference in experience between the teams, the R-MA athletes were in the game for long stretches and never gave up fighting.
Middle School Soccer
Earlier this week, the R-MA Middle School soccer team got off to a great start against Quantico Middle School as they scored four goals in the first twenty minutes of play. Nnamdi E. scored one of the goals in the first half. The score at halftime was 4-0, but Quantico would fight back strong in the second half. They scored twice to cut the score in half to 4-2 before R-MA answered with its fifth goal. Quantico would score again, but the Yellow Jackets held on to win 5-3. The Yellow Jackets are 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Valley Middle School Conference.
