The Randolph-Macon Academy Marching Band played before King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Thursday, April 30, as part of a grand 250th birthday Celebration for the United States hosted by the town of Front Royal. The R-MA band learned just days before that they would be featured in a parade through town before the King and Queen of England.
Media followed the royals’ every step, and in reporting on their activities in Front Royal, the R-MA band received a great deal of attention.

“I think what made this special was knowing we were representing more than just ourselves. We were representing R-MA, Front Royal, and everyone who helped prepare us for a moment like this,” said Rania Husted [Senior, Regimental Commander]. “It is something I will always remember.”
“Out of the thousands of small towns in America, how lucky is it that the King and Queen decide to choose Front Royal, Virginia?” asked Brandon Eam [8th grade, flute]. “Obviously, I am very grateful I got to perform for them, but I was shocked when I first heard the news and almost didn’t believe it.”
“I was proud to represent R-MA in front of the King and Queen of England,” said Anthony Yoder, [Grade 10, Color Guard]. “I could show others what R-MA had taught me about drill and discipline, and I’m happy that I was chosen to be a part of the color guard for this historic event.”
Major events are nothing new to the R-MA Marching Band. Our award-winning band travels throughout the region to perform in parades each year, and have even played the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.
Marching Band, Concert Band, and Pep Band are part of Randolph-Macon Academy’s Visual and Performing Arts programs.
