R-MA President Announces Retirement

Front Royal, VA— Randolph-Macon Academy President Major General Henry M. Hobgood, USAF Ret, has announced his intention to retire from Randolph-Macon Academy, effective July 1, 2013.

Major General Henry M. Hobgood, President of R-MA for the past 15 years, has announced his retirement, effective July 1, 2013.

Hobgood came to Randolph-Macon Academy July 1, 1997. Under his leadership during the last 15 years, Randolph-Macon has become one of the most respected military college-prep schools in the United States. A few of the accomplishment made under his leadership include the Academy’s designation as a Falcon Foundation School, the successful completion of an $11 million capital campaign, and the establishment of a new classroom building, Stan Fulton Hall. In addition, the Academy has significantly enhanced its financial standing and is now a strong and viable institution.

“The summer of 1997 represented a turning point in the long history of Randolph-Macon Academy.  Major General Henry M. Hobgood and Carolyn, his wife, came to us after having served 32 years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force.  Like his military service, he has served this institution with dedication and character.  His service is marked by significant quality enhancements of the institution we respect,” R-MA Board of Trustee Chairman Joseph Silek wrote in a letter to the R-MA community.

Later this week, the Academy will launch a nationwide search for a new president to take leadership of the school when Hobgood retires next year.
