R-MA Middle School Boys Start Season With Win Over Highland 34-33

On Friday, December 4, the Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School Boys' Basketball team played its first game of the 2015-2016 season at home against Highland school from Warrenton, Virginia. The Highland team was big, fast, and well-coached. The first quarter was tied 11-11 with some good offensive and defensive plays by both teams. The second quarter saw Michael Sumner get hot scoring 12 points in the six minute frame. At the half the Jackets were leading 25-18. The second half defensive adjustments made the scoring more difficult for both teams. The young Jackets could only score 5 points during the third quarter and led 30-24. The fourth quarter was back and forth with Highland outscoring the Jackets after Michael Sumner fouled out with two and a half minutes remaining. The Jackets were able to hold off the Hawks attack and the final score was R-MA 34 and Highland 33.

Leading the charge for the Yellow Jackets was eighth-grader Michael Sumner with ten rebounds and 26 points. Eighth-grader John Clark added four rebounds and 6 points. Seventh-grader Sidique Thomas-Sualley scored the last two points of the game to give the Jackets the final lead. This was a good win for the R-MA team and all the team members know what areas need work. The team plays again on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of this week. Come out and support your Middle School teams.
