October 9th Soccer Results

On a perfect sunny crisp afternoon R-MA took photos for the yearbook and recognized its seniors on senior night ahead of a home game against SVA. The game that followed turned out to be a classic that added to the festive occasion. SVA came to R-MA with a similar record, but potentially as favorites, having scored more goals and conceded fewer goals against common opponents.

The Jackets started all seniors and had some good early chances that were finally rewarded when Somto Ogah was brought down in the area for a penalty. JJ Banek-Gabelle had played a strong game as keeper until being switched to midfield to add more power to the attack and it was he who stepped up to smash home a powerful PK after sending the keeper the wrong way. SVA rallied and managed to pull back an equalizer as the teams headed in for half-time.

In the second half Edward Fedzer continued with a strong display as keeper to block a number of shots, supported by a solid defense that kept chances to a minimum. However, SVA managed to take one of those opportunities to take a 2-1 lead. The Jackets roared back as Somto Ogah crossed from near the corner flag for JJ Banek-Gabelle to head powerfully past the keeper. Alpha Diallo was introduced with 30 minutes to play and he made an immediate impact with aggressive wing play, scoring a great individual goal for R-MA to lead 3-2. Somto Ogah followed that up with a great individual drive of his own to make the score 4-2. SVA managed to pull one goal back from a PK to make the final score 4-3, but R-MA saw out the game in style and can celebrate a solid performance against a tough opponent.
