Nine Randolph-Macon Academy students were recognized for their outstanding performance on the College Board’s Advanced Placement ® (AP®) exams.
Eight R-MA students were named AP Scholars for receiving scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. They were:
- Bo Borden ’12, the son of Clif and Dean Borden of Winchester
- Michael Brooks ’12, the son Kevin and Celeste Brooks of Front Royal
- GeorgiAnna Carbone-Wynne ’12, the daughter of Brian Wynne and Melissa Carbone-Wynne of West Nyack, NY
- John Morgan Moffatt Christoph ’12, the son Dr. and Mrs. Richard A. Christoph of Front Royal
- Alexander Neumeier ’12, the son of Anna Bryant of Woodbine and Michael Neumeier of Owings Mills
- Boyu Qian ’13, the son of Lixin Qian and Xiaojun Chen of Jinhua, China
- Logan Usmani ’12, the son of Casey and Miah Usmani of Winchester
- Yin Wen ’13, the daughter of Yin Lixin and Peng Ling Shenzhen of Guangdong, China
In addition, Li Deng ’13, the son of Xiaoning Deng and Shurong Xia of Chengdu, China, was named AP Scholar with Distinction. This honor is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. In 2012, 3.7 million exams were taken by more than 2 million students at over 18,000 high schools.
Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), founded in 1892, is a college-preparatory, coeducational day and boarding school for students in grades 6 through 12. Students in grades 9-12 participate in R-MA’s 91st Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). R-MA is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is located in Front Royal, VA.
