NHS International Day Dinner Benefits Earthquake Victims

Randolph-Macon Academy is known for its global population, and on Monday, April 27, 2015, the students celebrated that population in their favorite way: with food.

Students from 14 different countries began cooking on Sunday the 26th. Their excitement over sharing their cultural food with their fellow students at the International Day Dinner, which was held in Melton Memorial Gymnasium, was nearly tangible. Huge smiles, laughter and music floated through the air as the students and several adult volunteers served food to more than 175 attendees. Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Germany, Guatemala, India, Italy, Nepal, Nigeria, Poland, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

The event was planned by the National Honor Society (NHS), and according to president Mazrukh Khan, the original intent was raise funds to distribute to various international charities.  However, after the devastating earthquake that took place in Nepal on April 25, 2015, the NHS officers decided to donate the majority of the $2,000 raised to organizations that would assist victims of the earthquake.

Students and staff from 14 different countries shared their culture and their food with their classmates. The variety of food for the tasting was rivaled only by the number of desserts!
