The R-MA Jackets closed out their regular season with a tough 1-2 loss to a well-balanced Fresta side. Fresta pushed high from the kick-off and managed to score the opening goal in a goal mouth scramble. The rest of the first half slowly turned the Jackets was as they gather momentum and had a number of good shots saved. In the second half the Jackets controlled the game and took the fight to Fresta, finally creating the breakthrough midway through the second half. Fresta pushed hard for the lead and a shot took a wicked deflection up high and over the goal keeper that ended up giving Fresta a 2-1 victory. Michael Sumner had many of the best chances for the Jackets, bursting through on goal and hitting the crossbar on three occasions with the keeper beaten. Diego Leiva hit a number of well-placed free kicks that had the keeper at full stretch, but it was just one of those games where all the possession and chances just wouldn't drop in. This completes an outstanding regular season where the Jackets finish level top with Fresta and WCDS on 6 points as regular season co-champions. Now the Jackets look forward to a challenging but exciting tournament next week where the top 3 teams are drawn based on the numbers drawn out of the bag at the start of the season, as all three teams finished level on points and with an equal head-to-head record. R-MA will travel to Fresta on Tuesday with the reward of a final at WCDS awaiting the winner.
