MS Jackets Perfect Season

On Friday, February 12, the Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School Boys' Basketball team completed their season with a perfect 14-0 record. The team had previously won the Valley Middle School Regular Season Championship with a 6-0 record. The young Yellow Jackets earned a bye in the first round of the VMSC Tournament by being number one seed. R-MA beat the Wakefield Country Day Owls 47-15 in the semi-final game played on R-MA's home court. Friday's game between the Yellow Jackets and the number two seed Mountain View Conquerors lived up to expectations when during the third quarter the score was tied 25-25. The Jackets outscored Mountain View 13-11 in the third quarter and 15-8 during the final frame to win the VMSC Tournament Championship 47-33.

Leading the way for the Jackets was eighth-grader Michael Sumner who scored 27 points and gathered 12 rebounds. Eighth-grader John Clark scored 14 points. Seventh-graders Joseph Flowers scored 4 points and hauled down 15 rebounds while Sidique Thomas-Sualley scored 2 points, played great defense, and guided the team from the point guard position.

The coaches and players would like to thank the great R-MA supporters for coming out to the games this year. The house was packed for the final game. Thanks to General Wesley, the Parents Association, the parents, grandparents, siblings, faculty and staff, students, varsity girls' and boys' basketball teams, and our own Middle School cheerleaders for making this a great year for our Middle School student athletes.
