MS Boys Basketball Opens the Season With a Win

On Thursday, the R-MA Middle School Boys' Basketball team played their opening game of the young season against the Sacred Heart Saints from Winchester, Virginia. The young Jackets started the game slowly but were able to out-score the Saints 12-4 in the first period. During the second quarter the Jackets began to pull away by getting rebounds, which led to easy layups, and playing good defense. The score at halftime was 23-9. The third quarter was R-MA's best quarter where the Jackets out scored their opponents 18-4 and took a 41-13 lead going into the final period. Everyone was able to play during the fourth quarter and the young Jackets earned their first victory 54-24. Leading the way for R-MA was eighth-grader Stanley Richards with 19 points, seventh-grader Michael Sumner who threw in 17 points, sixth-grader Sidique Thomas-Sually who scored 6, eighth-graders Gary Feng and Gil Iphael contributing 4 points each, and Bernard Kasozi and Ian Mounts with 2 points each. This was a good win for the team and they were able to take that momentum into their second game at home on Friday against the County Christian School with a second victory.
