Middle School Boys Win Quarter Final Game Over Wakefield Country Day School

On Monday, February 3, the R-MA Boys' Basketball Team defeated the Wakefield Country Day School Owls by the score of 27-13 in the opening round of the VMSC Tournament.

The young Jackets were sluggish in the beginning of the game and really never gained the momentum displayed during the past weekend's tournament at the Powhatan School in Boyce, Virginia. At the end of the first stanza the score was 7-4. The second quarter was also dominated by turn overs and poor offensive possessions. At halftime, the score was R-MA 13 and WCDS 6. During the third quarter the Jackets came alive and quickly scored eleven points and led at the end of the third quarter 24-10. The fourth quarter was uneventful with both teams scoring just three points each. The final score was 27-13. Ryan Latham had an offensive break-out game scoring 13 points and hauled down 6 rebounds. Cailen Baggett and Stanley Richards had very good defensive games and each scored 5 points. John Backo and Samuel Uzoma completed the scoring with 2 points each; but Samuel controlled the boards with his game high 13 rebounds. As a result of this quarter final victory, the young Jackets are 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the VMSC.

With this win, the Jackets advance to the semifinal round of competition. The game scheduled for today, Tuesday, February 4, against the number one seed Rappahannock Panthers has been cancelled but the game will be made up in the near future. Thanks again to the parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, students, and fans for coming out and supporting your R-MA Yellow Jackets this season.
