The R-MA Middle School Yellow Jackets boys' team traveled to Martinsburg, West Virginia, on Thursday evening to play the host Saint Joseph's Crusaders in a VMSC contest. The Crusaders are having a rebuilding year and the Jackets had no difficulty while cruising to a 45-6 victory. The young Jackets started the game with a 19 point run and ended the first quarter leading 21-2. The second unit saw extensive playing time during the second and third quarter. At halftime the score was 34-2. The second and third units played the majority of the third quarter that ended 42-2. The third unit played the entire fourth quarter and performed well. The final score was 45-6.
The top scorer for the Jackets was seventh-grader Michael Sumner who scored 12 points and hauled down 7 rebounds while seeing limited action. Eighth-grader Stanley Richards threw in 10 points and played an inspired defense. Sixth-grader Sidique Thomas-Sualley led the team at the point guard position with 6 points and four assists. Eighth-grader Gil Iphael scored 4 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Eighth-grader Kota Ikemoto also scored 4 points and recorded 5 rebounds. Eighth-grader Griffin Loper, seventh-grader Jonathan Bunker, and sixth-grader Alex Saveliev each contributed 3 points on route to the victory.
With this win the Yellow Jackets are 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the VMSC. The Jackets travel to Wakefield Country Day School on Tuesday to play a VMSC contest against the Owls. On Thursday the Jackets will host Quantico in a non-conference contest.
