Middle School Boys’ Basketball Triumphs Again

by Coach Bill Curl '66

On Monday the R-MA Middle School Boys' Basketball team traveled to Mountain View to play the Conquerors in a non-conference game. Mountain View hosted a tournament last weekend where they beat the Front Royal Flames and Saint Johns to win the tournament title. We had heard that the Conquerors had some shooters and a 6'5'' center. Those reports were true and we played a good Mountain View team on their home court. The Jackets got off to a quick start but the Conquerors came back and the score after the first quarter was R-MA 12 and Mountain View 10. R-MA played good defense and had a great second quarter outscoring the Conquerors 16 to 2. At halftime the score was R-MA 28 and Mountain View 12. The third quarter saw R-MA increase their lead to 40-20. During the final period the Jackets made numerous substitutions and the Conquerors cut into the lead. The final score was R-MA 42 and Mountain View 27.

This was a good road win for the Jackets who are now 5-0 for the season and 1-0 in the VMSC. The leading scorers for this game was seventh-grader Michael Sumner who poured in 17 points and contributed 5 rebounds. Eighth-grader Stanley Richard had a good game shooting 6 for 10 from the field for 12 points. Eighth-grader Kota Ikemoto played an inspired game inside with 7 rebounds and 4 points. Sixth-grader Sidique Thomas-Sualley ran the team well from the point guard position and contributed 3 points. Eighth-graders Griffin Loper, Gil Iphael, and Ishmael Bobbitt all played good defense and each scored 2 points.
