On Thursday, January 30, the R-MA Middle School Boys' Basketball team traveled to SVCA to play the Patriots in a VMSC contest. The Jackets got off to a quick start and led after the first quarter 15-9. The defensive play controlled the second quarter with neither team scoring many points. The Jackets led at halftime 19-15. The Patriots started the third quarter hitting their shots and took the lead, 25-28. Both teams played good, tough defense during the final quarter, but the Patriots held off a fierce attack by the Jackets and won the game 38-31.
Leading the scorer for the Jackets was Samuel Uzoma who scored 10 points and hauled in 10 rebounds before fouling out of the game. Ryan Latham added 8 points and 16 rebounds. Stanley Richards played a strong game at point guard leading the offense while scoring 7 points. Griffin Loper and John Backo added 4 and 2 points, respectively.
The Jackets travel to Boyce, Virginia, to participate in the Powhatan Invitational Tournament on Saturday, February 1, with the boys playing the first game against Fresta Valley at 9:00 and the girls playing at 10:00 against Loudoun. The girls play again at 12:00 against Powhatan with the boys playing Powhatan at 1:00. Come out and support your Yellow Jacket basketball program!
