This past Tuesday, the Yellow Jackets faced-off against their toughest opponent so far in the season, as they took on the Highland Hawks. From the starting tip-off, it was a battle that was fun to watch.
In the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets struggled from the floor. With only six points, a hole to dig out of was already beginning. To help the cause, Adonis Lawrence ‘22, Logan Huber ‘22, and Nnamdi Odom ‘23 were able to score two points each. End of the first, 10-6 Hawks.
The second quarter saw a little more production with Lawrence scoring on two drives and a foul-shot. Joining him, with his first two points of the season, was Minjun Choi ‘22. Unfortunately, the defense couldn’t hold up, with Highland scoring twelve more points. End of the first half, 22-13 Hawks.
The second half was almost a mirror of the first. The Yellow Jackets struggled to find their rhythm, but had two new players score. Tyler Campbell ‘22 struck first scoring one of his five points. Nethaneel Loolo ’23 also scored with a nice drive to the basket. However, Highland was much more dominant by controlling the pace of the floor. End of the third, 35-20 Highland.
In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets defense finally found its roots; holding the Hawks to only five baskets. Unfortunately, even with points from Akachi Anyanwu ‘24 (four), Nnamdi Ezunu ’24 (two), and Lawrence, the Highland Hawks took the victory. Final score, Highland 40, R-MA 28.
