On Thursday, January 28, the R-MA young Jackets traveled across town to Front Royal Christian Academy to play the final VMSC regular season contest. The Jackets knew going into this game that a win would clinch the VMSC Regular Season Championship and secure the home team advantage throughout the VMSC Tournament scheduled to start on Tuesday, February 9. The R-MA team played well from the beginning and were leading at the end of the first quarter 11-2. The Front Royal Christian Academy Warriors had a good second period and cut the lead to 13-7 at halftime. The Jackets scored 14 points during the third period and jumped to a 27-14 lead heading into the final quarter. R-MA continued to play well during the final frame and the final score was 35-14.
Leading the way for the young Jackets were eighth-graders Daggm Mekonnen and Bernard Kasozi and seventh-grader Sidique Thomas-Sualley each scoring 8 points. Eighth-grader Ben Kopjanski added 3 points and 9 rebounds. Eighth-graders David Deng and Will Graham and seventh-graders Joseph Flowers and Manny Uzoma all added 2 points each to complete the scoring.
With this win the Jackets are 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the VMSC. Next Wednesday, February 3, the Jackets host Sacred Heart Academy from Winchester in a non-conference game starting after the girls' game at 4:00. On Thursday, the Jackets travel to Manassas to play Seton at 4:00. Come out and support your R-MA team.
