Dorm life plays a crucial role in shaping the general living and learning experiences of students who live on campus. When structured properly, it can give students the support and structure they need to live a full academic life. For this reason, most schools pay close attention to how their dormitories are run daily.
At Randolph-Macon Academy, we place the utmost importance on the quality of dorm life that our students experience. That’s why we have built a living environment that provides all the necessary resources our students need to thrive inside and outside our private boarding school.
Dorm Life At Our Private Boarding School
R-MA boasts a long-standing culture of student excellence, and dorm life is an essential and exciting part of the student experience. Our dorms provide a safe, inclusive, and serene living space where students can get the everyday support and supply needed to live a fulfilling academic life.
Male students in Upper School take up residence in Sonner-Payne Hall. They occupy well-furnished bedrooms with a comfortable bed, desk, and closet space, replete with central air conditioning and a heating system. Just across the hallway, a row of bathrooms is provided for students.
Turner Hall is the choice of housing for Upper School female students. Female students get a suite-style private bathroom with dual vanity sinks and the usual air conditioning, heating, and well-furnished bedrooms.
Both male and female boarding houses at our preparatory school have lounge areas that are equipped with table games and sitting areas, and they provide all the warmth and fun that our students could use after a busy day of learning.
Middle School students reside at Mast Hall, an expansive accommodation with polished floors, cozy rooms, and a lovely lounge. The lounge is the favorite spot for most students who look to enjoy their after-school hours. Whether students are watching TV in one of the comfy chairs or hitting balls on the tennis or foosball tables, there’s something in it for everyone.
Regarding food, our students across all dorms are hosted to freshly served and wholesome meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. These meals are made with high-quality and safe ingredients, and we have our partnership with local farms, producers, and suppliers to thank for it.
The Structure of Dorm Life for Students
At R-MA, we take great interest in dorm life’s role in shaping the quality of the learning experience for our students. That’s why we introduce our students to a supervised study session daily.
We bring the week to an exciting end by treating the students to delightful weekend excursions where they partake in several social activities. These excursions allow students to make new acquaintances and build lasting friendships.
A Cadet Life Supervisor, or dorm parent, is assigned to each floor across all the dorms at our private boarding school. These officials are responsible for student welfare issues, rules/regulation enforcement, and the day-to-day running of the houses. They also help students navigate personal issues, contributing to their overall well-being.
The Residential Life Program
The Residential Life Program at R-MA was designed to prepare students with the education and social awareness needed to thrive in college and beyond. With our team of three alumni, two ordained ministers, a former social worker, and four athletic trainers running the show, students can expect a complete and rewarding living experience.
The Residential Life program has a well-curated curriculum taught by expert Cadet Life Supervisors who center their meetings on life, civil communication, and positive choice-making skills. Cadets build a sense of responsibility, independence, and leadership after participating actively in the discussions and events held throughout the program.
