On Monday, May 1st, the R-MA golf team traveled to Army Navy Country Club in Fairfax, Virginia, to play against Trinity Christian School (TCS), ranked number eight in the Division II state poll and the Highland School. The weather forecast was not good but the storm held off until the match was completed.
The Jackets started poorly, but from the fourth hole on the Jackets played inspired golf. Joseph Silek ‘17 had an eagle which was a tremendous momentum boost for the team and erased an early lead by the Trinity team. The match was close throughout, but the R-MA team emerged with a 138 to 141 win over Trinity and a 138-164 win over Highland.
The low golfer for the match was Jacob Karen ‘19 who shot an impressive 43 on this very difficult, windy course. Silek beat his man by two strokes and posted a 46. Connor Gamma ’20 tied his man, who was a member of the Army Navy Country Club, with a nice 49. These victories gave the Jackets at least a second place finish in the D.A.C. for the season. With these wins the Jackets are now 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the D.A.C.
The Jackets play a non-conference match against Blue Ridge School on Tuesday, May 2nd, at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club starting at 4:00 pm. The final D.A.C. regular season match will take place on Wednesday, May 3rd, at Shenandoah Valley when the Wakefield Owls, ranked second in the Division II state poll, will play the Jackets for this year's conference bragging rights.
