Former Academy Board Member Bill Thomas ’57 Passes Away

Former Randolph-Macon Academy Board Member William “Bill” Thomas ‘57 passed away on January 23, 2020.

Bill served on the R-MA Board of Directors from 2005-2012. During that time he was part of the 2006 Capital Campaign Committee leadership team which funded the construction of a new academic building, Fulton Hall. He also chaired the Board Development Committee.

 

“Bill was a wonderful counselor for R-MA,” said R-MA President Brig Gen David C. Wesley, USAF, Retired. “He was deeply committed to the Academy and its future.”

 

Bill attended R-MA three years, serving as Battalion Commander, the highest position in the student military corps, his senior year. He played varsity football and was on the swim and track teams. He also was a member of the R-MA drill team. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Suzanne Foster Thomas; his two sons, William Griffith Thomas III (Heather) and Alexander Young Thomas (Brigid); and his daughter, Margaret Campbell Thomas Konkel (Brian); and five grandchildren. 

 

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 228 South Pitt Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 2:00pm.
