Daniel Ponn of Randolph-Macon Academy has been named a semi-finalist in the National Geographic Bee. Dennis Ponn, the son of Lori and Ward Ponn of Marshall, VA, has qualified as a semifinalist eligible to compete in the 2013 Virginia National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. Ponn is an eighth grader at Randolph-Macon Academy. Along with other school-level winners across the state, he had to take a written test to attempt to qualify for the semifinals. Only the students with the top 100 scores are invited to compete at the state level.

The 2013 Virginia National Geographic Bee will be held at Longwood University in Farmville, VA, on Friday, April 5, 2013.
