Blue Star Memorial Marker to be Placed at Randolph-Macon Academy

Front Royal, VA—Randolph-Macon Academy’s next Retreat Formation will feature a special dedication, as the Shenandoah District of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs dedicates a Blue Star Memorial Marker to be placed on campus.

The Blue Star Memorials are seen throughout the U.S., signifying byways or places of interest. According to the Virginia Garden Clubs web site, “The Blue Star Memorial Program honors all men and women who have served, were serving or would serve in the armed services of the United States. The Blue Star became an icon in World War II and was seen on flags and banners in homes for sons and daughters away at war, as well as in churches and businesses.”

The Retreat Formation featuring the Blue Star Memorial Marker dedication at Randolph-Macon Academy will take place on Riddick Field on the R-MA campus at 3:15 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012. The public is welcome to attend this special retreat ceremony and dedication. The West Main Street “Football Gate” will be open, and attendees are welcome to park on the practice football field just to the south of Riddick Field.

“Our president, Mary Burke, lives in Front Royal. When we had the funds available to place a Blue Star Memorial Marker, it was her wish that it be placed at Randolph-Macon Academy,” said Gloria Crump of the Shenandoah District of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.  Members of the District, including Burke, are expected to be in attendance, along with Judy B. Binns, the president of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.
