4 Reasons to Enroll in a Summer Program at Our Private Academy

From June 24 to July 23, Randolph-Macon Academy will be providing in-person instruction at our 135-acre campus in Warren County. While adhering to the safety guidelines established by our academy during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. wearing face coverings, mandatory social distancing for all parties), R-MA will be offering summer instruction for students in Middle School (grades 6 to 8) and Upper School (grades 9 to 12), as well as offering the Aviation Explorers program to Upper Schoolers.

Not only are students enriched through the in-class learning offered from R-MA’s summer program, but there are also plenty of engaging activities for them to look forward to outside the classroom.

Here are four excellent reasons students should consider enrolling in a summer program at R-MA this year!

1. Our Course Options Are Vast and Diverse for Students in All Grades

At both the Upper and Middle School levels, R-MA gives students many options for expanding their knowledge and adding to their unique educational experience at the school. Upper Schoolers can choose between two courses over the span of a month, or one course during that same time period. Summer course options include Modern World History, United States History, Computer Science, Aviation Explorers, and World Religions. Students in Middle School are able to take courses on creative writing, study skills, music, and science. The science course allows them to learn about the subject through engaging hands-on experiences, such as having the opportunity to create a Rube Goldberg machine.

2. Unique Opportunities for Middle and Upper School Students Alike

Students at our college preparatory school will have opportunities to achieve personal growth and enhance their academic experience while taking summer classes at R-MA. Upper School students will be able to take Flight classes during the summer months, as well as gain transferable credits after successfully completing their courses. Middle School students are given opportunities to learn about Robotics, and also be educated on responsible digital citizenship (e.g. privacy, security, digital footprints), which they learn by taking part in our school’s mentorship program.

Students in Upper and Middle School have unique opportunities during the summer months

3. Drones and Flight Training Are Offered at the Private Academy Over the Summer Period

Students in our Upper School will be able to take a class on Flight Training and Drone Applications, with hours of their class time dedicated to learning how to fly using our two Cessna aircraft, which are owned by the school. This program, known as the Aviation Explorers Program, has traditionally been one of our most successful programs during summer classes. These students are able to learn about unmanned aviation systems (e.g. drones) and aerial photography, as well as flight by using our own simulators and aircraft, learning from both on-ground and in-air instruction.

4. Last But Not Least, Supervised Activities and Field Trips

Taking summer programs at our private academy offers students plenty of opportunities to have fun, both on and off campus. While adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines put in place by the school, students enjoy on-campus activities such as game nights, campfires, scavenger hunts, and paintball.

Opportunities for field trips off-campus are also available to students in summer courses

During activities that take place off-campus, students will get to travel to Washington, D.C., and Shenandoah National Park. They may also have opportunities to go to movie theaters, roller skating rinks, and bowling alleys. All of these activities ensure R-MA students enrolled in the summer program have a truly enriching experience.
