Remedial and Prep Program

Open to all high-school aged students rising to grades 9-12. Remedial courses provide transferable academic credit upon successful completion, helping students meet academic requirements. Preparatory (non-credit) courses equip students with the skills necessary for future academic success. 

Courses below are available in both Session I and Session II:

The Youth Civics Summit

Date:

  Middle School The Youth Civics Summit

Program Overview:
The Youth Civics Summit is an immersive, one-week summer camp designed to empower young individuals to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and foster a strong sense of civic responsibility. The Program offers hands-on experiences in government, public speaking, and team-building exercises. Participants will engage in workshops, debates, and leadership simulations that focus on the fundamentals of governance, policy-making, and active citizenship.

Leveraging the rich resources of Washington, D.C., and Virginia’s state capital of Richmond, students will have the opportunity to visit key government institutions, meet with local and state officials, and experience the legislative process firsthand. Through interactive activities, they will learn the power of collaboration, critical thinking, and advocacy. The program is designed to inspire participants to become active leaders in their communities, equipping them with the tools to create positive change while building meaningful connections and friendships with their peers.

Foundations for Success Boot Camp: 
Math & Writing Excellence

  Middle School Foundation for Success Boot Camp: Math & Writing Excellence

Program Overview:
Students will sharpen, remediate, and accelerate their foundational skills through Math or Writing Boot Camp Course. In addition to the boot camp, students will choose either a Robotics, Study Skills, or Leadership enrichment track. In the afternoon, all students will come together for all students to come together for engaging, fun, and physically active camp experiences. These activities take full advantage of the Shenandoah Valley’s scenic beauty and local resources. Students will graduate either track with a certificate of academic achievement in each course!

Morning Tracks (Academic Advancement)

Students will choose one of the following morning courses based on their academic goals:

1. Advancement Courses
Geared toward students looking to excel and prepare for future challenges:

• Math Boot Camp: An intensive course to help students strengthen their math skills for the upcoming school year.
• Writing Boot Camp: Focus on honing writing techniques, grammar, and composition for academic success.

2. Enrichment Tracks
These courses provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of interest:

• Courses Offered:
  • Leadership: Cultivate leadership skills through hands-on projects, team activities, and personal growth workshops.
  • Robotics: Dive into robotics programming, design, and competition preparation.
  • Study Skills: Develop essential organizational, study, and executive functioning skills to prepare you for the transition to middle or high school.

Aviation Summer Camp 
(rising grades 9-12)

  Note: The Aviation Summer Camp can only be taken in Session I or Session II; concurrent enrollment (4-weeks) for this program is not offered. 

R-MA is thrilled to offer one of our most popular summer programs, now more robust than ever. Aviation Summer Camp is offered in both Sessions I & II where each session is two-weeks in length. This comprehensive program includes the following courses open to students rising to grades 9-12:  

Flight Training
Students explore Aviation by training in R-MA aircraft and simulators as well as learn from guest speakers and taking weekly field trips. Students receive first-class instruction in the air and on the ground while  discovering unlimited opportunities in aviation careers.

Drone Applications
The Summer Aviation Camp also includes instruction for unmanned aviation, or drones. Students participate in hands-on flight training for aerial photography, advanced data collection for mapping and 3D modeling. Students may also complete the FAA remote pilot certification.  

There is a 12-student maximum for each Session. 

R-MA is proud to offer dormitories with renovated student lounges and caring dorm parents on each floor. All dorm rooms are equipped with a bed, desk, closet and central air-conditioning. Upper School Female dorm rooms are equipped with a private bathroom. Upper School Male dorm rooms include a sink and hallway bathrooms are available on each floor. Middle School Dorms feature hallway bathrooms separated by gender.

Newly renovated student lounges include comfortable, inviting seating arrangements and individual workspaces. An array of ping pong, foosball and air-hockey tables await with flat screen TVs for movie and trivia nights.

Students are provided with a variety of activities taking place on the R-MA campus and in nearby surrounding areas. On-campus activities take place on our 135-acre campus which include scavenger hunts, paintball sessions, outdoor and indoor movie viewings, game nights, campfires with s’mores as well as free-time for students to relax.

Off-campus activities are abundant and truly add to the summer experience. Such activities include:

A true highlight of the summer, R-MA offers a variety of dining options during the summer. Students enjoy freshly prepared meals from internationally inspired cuisines as well as an array of organic vegetable options and fresh-cut fruit – daily! Dessert options are also available on a daily basis.
