Spiritual Life

Randolph-Macon Academy is a United Methodist-affiliated school with a globally, culturally, and religiously diverse student body. Faculty and staff believe that young people must have an ethical, moral, and spiritual foundation upon which to build their lives. To that end, we strive to integrate spiritual formation into the regular rhythms of academic and student life, fostering a climate of respect and compassion in all religious matters. The Academy is ecumenical, and welcomes students of all religions.

All cadets are expected to attend weekly Chapel services. Cadet leadership and participation in the service is encouraged, regardless of religious affiliation. In the spirit of mutual learning, R-MA encourages cadets to share about important holy days and observances from their religious tradition during chapel service, to include sacred writings and prayers. Throughout the year, special services and observations are incorporated into Chapel services and visits to local houses of worship are encouraged.

The Spiritual Life program offers additional opportunities for cadets to explore their faith and grow in character and leadership. These opportunities include: weekly Bible studies, nights of worship, mission trips, service opportunities, small group meetings, book studies, daily devotionals, Confirmation classes, the praise band, and choir. R-MA has an interfaith prayer room available to cadets, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a “city on a hill” where all are welcome to live out their faith as they see fit, to respect differences, and to serve God and others. The chaplain is available to meet with cadets for guidance and counsel relating to all spiritual matters, and is happy to connect cadets and families to resources that help them grow in their faith.

The physical center of the spiritual activities at R-MA is Boggs Chapel, which features an Allen Renaissance Quantum (TM) Model Q-385 Organ and a state-of-the-art sound system. Boggs Chapel seats approximately 450 people.
