American Legion Post 53 Donates Flags to R-MA

Last spring, Randolph-Macon Academy teacher Commander Julianne Cochran, USN, Retired, approached Front Royal Giles B. Cook American Legion Post 53 representatives about putting American flags in each classroom. The Post members were quick to agree to support their local Air Force Junior ROTC school, and over the summer, they purchased 51 brackets and American flags to be installed at both the R-MA Middle School and the R-MA Upper School. Sergeant-at-Arms Lalit ¨Pip¨ Piplani, the Post Adjutant John Kokernak, and Commander Cochran completed the installation in August.

J-Term Course Fair Generates Excitement

In January 2020, Randolph-Macon Academy students will pause in their regular school-year studies to take two three-week inquiry-based courses geared toward career and life skills development. Nicknamed the "J-Term," the offered classes will encompass a wide variety of special interests. On Wednesday, September 4th, the Upper School cadets had the opportunity to talk to each of the teachers sponsoring one of the 17 courses during the “J-Term Course Fair.”

The Jackets started their season confidently with a home game against Fresta Valley. Somto Ogah was menacing throughout from attacking mid and won a penalty in the first half that was converted by keeper JJ Banek-Gabelle. Somto got on the score sheet in the second half with a goal of his own before JJ Banek-Gabelle added two more for his hat-trick when moved to attacking mid. Fresta scored a late consolation goal for a 4-1 victory for R-MA.
