Veterans Day is a busy time for many Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) units across the country, and the Virginia 091st Air Force JROTC unit at Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) is no exception.
On Friday, November 7, 2014, the R-MA Color Guard will post the colors, the R-MA Chorus will perform a few patriotic songs, and Air Force JROTC instructor TSgt Tina Laing, USAF Retired, will be the guest speaker at the Veterans Day Ceremony held at Warren County Public Middle School. Then on Sunday, November 9th, the Color Guard will post the colors at Dynamic Life and Praise Center.
Veterans Day, November 11th, will be even busier. R-MA will continue its long tradition of participating in the Front Royal Veterans Day Ceremony held at 11:00 am at the Warren County Courthouse. The Color Guard will post the colors, the Honor Guard will perform a 21-gun salute, and the R-MA band will join the bands from local public schools Warren County High School and Skyline High School in providing patriotic music.
At the same time, a second Color Guard will post the colors at a service being held at a local 55+ community near Frederick Lake just north of Front Royal, and R-MA Commandant Col Gary Sadler, USAF Retired, will be the featured speaker at the Winchester/Frederick County Veterans Council at Omps South Chapel Cemetery.
At 3:00 pm, the Color Guard will post the colors for the final time that day, and Sadler will again be the guest speaker, this time at the Brandt Student Center at Shenandoah University, as part of a ceremony arranged by the Student Veterans Association.
