Randolph-Macon Academy’s drama department will perform Grease at The Little Theatre. Set in 1959, Grease debuted in a small playhouse in Chicago called The Kingston Mines Theatre, capable of holding only 100 patrons who had to sit on the floor. Attendees at the R-MA Little Theatre won’t have to sit on the floor, but the small, intimate setting will be reminiscent of the beginning of Grease.
Grease went on to become the longest-running Broadway musical in 1979 with 3,388 performances. It was helped along by Paramount Pictures’ 1979 production of the movie. Now, at R-MA, the Little Theatre will play host to one of the largest productions in recent memory, with more than 30 actors and crew members involved in the performance.
R-MA’s production of Grease will open on Friday, November 15th with a show at 7:30 pm. Additional shows will be at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday the 16th, and at 7:30 pm on Wednesday the 20th and Thursday the 21st. General admission is free; however, donations to support the drama program will be graciously accepted. Doors open a half-hour before the show.
