On Thursday, October 16, the R-MA Middle School golf team completed their 2014 season with an unblemished record of 4-0. Last season, 2013, the team was 3-0. Much of these records are due to Jacob Karen and Ian Mounts who have performed well during their middle school careers.
The team played their final match against Linton Hall at home at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The weather was beautiful and the course was ready for attacking. Jacob Karen and Ian Mounts had just, a week earlier, played inspired golf on Linton Hall's home course at the Prince William Golf Course. Ian posted his personal best at Prince William. The team knew that they needed to play well in their final match to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
Both teams started play with good scores on the first three holes, but Jacob Karen was on fire scoring two over par after the first four holes. As the sun was setting the first group, Jacob Karen and Ian Mounts, completed their round with R-MA taking a substantial 22 stroke lead. Jacob Karen and Ian Mounts posted their personal best scores of 43 and 52 . The second and third groups completed an abbreviated round by completing eight holes. The final scoring was complete and R-MA won an impressive match 151-178. Linton Hall improved during the year, but R-MA performed extremely well winning all four matches by 3, 10, 13, and 27 strokes.
A special thanks goes out to Joseph Silek and Thomas Minchew for their support and dedication throughout the season. These two previous middle school golfers came to practices and matches to help our younger golfers. They helped coach on the range and on the course. Their presence, patience, and knowledge of the game inspired the middle school team. Congratulations all for a successful R-MA Middle School golf season!
