Randolph-Macon Academy is proud to announce that our Summer Program will resume for the 2021 season, with in-person lessons and on-campus boarding. R-MA has adapted its program to give students the best possible experience, while keeping in mind important health and safety considerations. Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and regular sanitation are all ways in which R-MA is committed to ensuring the well-being of our students and faculty this summer.
If you’re interested in learning more about what to expect from our summer program, read on for an overview of the safety measures implemented at R-MA.
New Social Distancing Measures at Our Summer Program
The summer program at R-MA offers a diverse and enriching academic curriculum taught by our experienced teaching staff. Outside the classroom, students at our boarding high school will participate in a range of extracurricular activities, including sports, game nights, movie viewings, and field trips. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we want our students to make the most of their summer. That’s why R-MA has taken the necessary precautions to provide students with quality experiences while putting their health and safety first.
Classes will be divided into smaller groups to allow for sufficient social distancing measures, and regular sanitation procedures will be implemented across campus facilities. Both students and staff will be required to wear face coverings at all times during the summer program. Social distancing measures will also be applied to all group activities and shared spaces. For example, our newly-renovated student lounges now feature distanced seating arrangements and individual workspaces for a safer learning environment.
COVID-19 Tests Offered to Students at Our Private Boarding School
This year, our summer program will run from June 24 to July 23, 2021. As part of R-MA’s reopening plan for the summer program, all students enrolled in our program must report to the R-MA campus on June 24 to receive their COVID-19 test. Our private boarding school students will quarantine on campus for 72 hours after their arrival, with fully prepared meals and computer access. If you opt to enroll as a day student, you must return home after your COVID-19 test in order to self-quarantine. All students who receive a negative test result will be cleared to begin summer classes on June 27. Additionally, daily temperature checks will be mandatory for students and staff throughout the program.
On-Campus Supervision from Our Staff
During the course of the summer, the dedicated staff at R-MA will closely supervise students
throughout their classes, extracurricular activities, and off-campus trips. Our faculty will ensure the well-being of the students and enforce appropriate social distancing measures. Daily organized schedules will facilitate this process and ensure that all students participate in effective health and safety measures.
R-MA is delighted to resume on-campus boarding this year for the duration of the summer program. Dorm parents will be present on each floor to offer support and supervision to students in accommodation. R-MA is committed to maintaining open and transparent communication throughout this time. Parents of students enrolled in the R-MA summer program can rest assured that our staff will provide updated information on safety protocols for the entire campus.
