How Alumni Support Helps Students Grow Into Strong Leaders

Student life at Randolph-Macon Academy is structured around the philosophy that hard work and strong character lead to success. Through extensive opportunities – both inside and outside the classroom – students learn what it takes to achieve their goals.

First and foremost, our educational program is experiential. We want students to take charge of their ambitions, to become responsible and self-assured leaders. By encouraging success in numerous areas, including academic studies and professional pursuits, R-MA shows students that there is no limit to their abilities.

Leading Our Students Towards Success

Through our mentoring program, every student is assigned to an experienced faculty or staff mentor, who will meet with the student for weekly lunches and mentoring sessions throughout the school year. Mentors provide students with guidance on both social and academic achievement. By understanding the individual goals of a student, a mentor can assist them in crafting an appropriate class schedule and offer them tailored advice on the college application process. The goal is to encourage our students to take proactive measures to become leaders in their own lives.

Mentors also serve as a point of contact for our students’ families, should any questions or concerns arise. In that case, we are able to establish a more cohesive support system for our students.

Community support is essential to success at R-MA

Encouraging Responsibility and Respect

Every student at R-MA is expected to uphold the Honor Code, which is centered around the three tenets of trust, personal integrity, and respect. We encourage students to take responsibility for their actions, and we teach the importance of honorable action over personal gain. By fostering integrity in today’s generation of cadets, we build a foundation of mutual respect across our faculty and student body. Our students trust one another to maintain the same level of discipline and decorum. We believe, as we always have here at R-MA, that these are the guiding principles that every responsible leader should follow.

Alumni giving can help our students on their path to becoming responsible leaders

Helping R-MA Maintain Elite Units

Through our long-standing Air Force Junior ROTC program, today’s cadets learn firsthand what it takes to become responsible leaders. Students apply their leadership skills by participating in various units that offer experiential lessons in teamwork and character development. Elite units include our Cadre Summer Leadership School, the Performance Team, the Honor Guard, the Flag Corps, and the Sabre team. Students in these units learn the importance of discipline and respect in personal appearance and team-building activities. Those who excel in leadership exercises are selected to join our Cadre group and serve as student leaders. R-MA’s newest generations of cadets continue to apply this unique level of training to develop both their personal and professional successes in the future.
