Homecoming Changes

Varsity Football Game Cancelled

After playing two tough games only four days apart last week, due to weather-related schedule changes, it become clear to the R-MA staff that there are not enough healthy football players to adequately field a team capable of protecting themselves or their teammates. Out of concern for keeping the young Yellow Jacket athletes safe, the staff has made the decision to cancel the Homecoming football game.

The R-MA cadre had planned a Powderpuff Football Game as the pre-Homecoming pep rally on Friday; they have agreed to move that game to Saturday at 2:00 pm. Pre-game ceremonies will include the presentation of the Homecoming Court and the Class of 1968 endowed scholarship check. While the Powderpuff players are getting ready for their game, a knock-out drill competition–one open to all students and alumni–will be held on Riddick Field. The halftime show will feature the male cheerleading competition originally planned to accompany the Powderpuff game.

The rest of the weekend events will go on as scheduled. Several buildings will be open to visitors, including Sonner-Payne Hall, the Middle School, Boggs Chapel, and Stan Fulton Hall, where alumni and their families can explore the new Hadeed Innovation Lab that just opened this fall.

Questions about the changes to the schedule should go to the Office of Advancement at (540) 636-5368 or at alumni@rma.edu
