Fostering Self-Expression in Students When You Make a Donation to R-MA

A key component of a successful educational experience is learning to take everything in—the lectures, the experiences, and the challenges—in order to develop meaningful and healthy ways to express yourself. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, students at Randolph-Macon Academy have opportunities for self-expression every day.

Learning the art of self-expression isn’t something that can be completed in one day. Students undergo incredible transformations during their time at R-MA. Support from faculty and staff, as well as their dedicated peers, allows students to figure out who they are and who they want to become. Continue reading to discover just how R-MA fosters these avenues for self-expression year after year.

Self-Expression Through the Visual and Performing Arts

The Visual and Performing Arts program at R-MA is a special offering that gives students a chance to explore their artistic and creative sides. We not only offer arts classes, we give students the opportunity to try out graphic and digital design, studio art, chorus, theater, and more.

Donations from alumni, parents and friends help support students who are learning to discover themselves at a crucial juncture in their lives. Through these opportunities, students have the chance to explore their interests, as well as develop crucial soft skills like teamwork, critical and creative thinking, and problem-solving. These will benefit students in all aspects of their lives, as they gain confidence expressing themselves.

When alumni make a donation to R-MA, they support our school’s ability to provide opportunities for self-expression

Supporting R-MA’s Leadership Initiatives

Leadership is a core skill that R-MA seeks to foster in its students. We encourage each student to build personal skills that will help them succeed in the future. This creates an overwhelming sense of motivation and direction on campus. As students learn to lead their own lives with honesty, respect, and trust, they begin to emit a powerful image for younger students to follow.

A focus on building leadership skills fosters a real sense of community on campus, with each student looking for the best way to lead their lives and create a positive impact in the lives of others. Supporting R-MA’s leadership initiatives helps us continue to provide ways to build up their skills, often through student-led club participation, athletics teams, and opportunities for students to take responsibility for themselves. Through these opportunities, students learn how to express themselves as leaders and shape the world around them in the unique way that only they can.

Leadership opportunities come in many forms at R-MA, including through clubs, athletics, and boarding life

Developing a Strong Sense of Self

At R-MA, we want to make sure that through all of the college prep and hard work students go through, they prioritize getting to know themselves. Developing a strong sense of self is integral to becoming the impactful and innovative leaders that R-MA students strive to be. The structured environment found at R-MA helps students achieve this, holding them accountable to our Honor Code and the responsibilities they hold as valuable members of our community.

Watching students carve their own paths as young adults—often with the guidance and inspiration from R-MA alumni—is something that our faculty, staff, and R-MA community will always be proud of. The passion, potential, and drive found in R-MA students sets our campus apart from others and propels R-MA students into a future that they feel comfortable leading and expressing themselves in.
