Col Ivan Mieth, USAF Ret, 1934-2012

Col Ivan G. Mieth, USAF Ret., former Commandant and Chief of Staff at Randolph-Macon Academy, passed away on March 12, 2012. Mieth served 50 years in the Air Force uniform—29 years on active duty, and 21 years at Randolph-Macon Academy, from which he retired in 2005.

Col Ivan G. Mieth, USAF Ret, former Commandant and Chief of Staff at R-MA for 21 years, passed away on March 12, 2012.“If there is anybody who has made this school their life, it’s Ivan Mieth,” Bandmaster Ed Richards had said at the time of Mieth’s retirement. “You won’t find a kid who’s been here who won’t speak highly of him.”

“Colonel Mieth was beloved and respected by cadets, faculty and staff alike,” R-MA President Maj Gen Henry M. Hobgood, USAF Ret., wrote in a notice to the R-MA family. “We want to honor the memory of this wonderful man who meant so much to our students and to the Academy.  Our plans to honor Colonel Mieth will be communicated to you as the information becomes available.”
