Alumni Profile: Douglas Driscoll ’11

Douglas Driscoll came to Randolph-Macon Academy as a junior in the fall of 2009 with two goals in mind: to achieve higher grades and to be accepted into good colleges. Thanks to both R-MA and his own strong work ethic, Driscoll, a 2011 graduate, can say that he achieved both.

After joining the R-MA family, Driscoll quickly became a model cadet. He was promoted to Cadre within his first year and proved he could serve as a leader in the cadet corps, graduating with the rank of Cadet Lt Col. He became very active in the athletic program by participating in varsity lacrosse and varsity soccer.

While advancing on the athletic field, Driscoll also excelled in the classroom. He enrolled in AP calculus; a class he said changed his career focus. Driscoll credits Mr. Eric Barr for his success in college math mathematics. “Mr. Barr was the most helpful teacher while I was at R-MA. He helped shape my understanding of mathematics at a college level,” Driscoll said.

Upon graduating from R-MA, he enrolled in Syracuse University on an Air Force ROTC scholarship, majoring in aerospace engineering.  Driscoll commissioned as a 2d Lt in the United States Air Force and will be located to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, reporting this fall to train as a cyber space operations officer.

In his free time, Driscoll enjoys riding his motorcycle. He also enjoys spending time with his four-legged best friend, Axel. Driscoll has continued to keep in touch with the R-MA community since he graduated. Most recently, he came back to work in the admission office during the summer of 2015 while he was waiting to receive his orders from the Air Force.
