3 Ways Our Coed Private School Builds Lifelong Habits

An education at Randolph-Macon Academy is about more than good grades. Of equal importance, it’s a time for students to develop character traits that will serve them well in their personal, academic, and professional futures. From a young age, students learn that achieving academic excellence requires structure and grit. For that reason, our community values are geared towards developing the attitude and approach of students as they navigate the modern world.

Through a rigorous academic program, a close-knit student body, and opportunities to develop new interests, graduates of R-MA are ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow. Read on to discover more about the learning values at our private academy!

1. Building Character Through the Honor Code at Our Coed Private School

Life at R-MA is underpinned by the integrity of our student body. In both our day and boarding school options, students join a campus that encourages the development of both the individual and the good of the whole community. All members of R-MA – both students and faculty – work together to develop a strong school spirit that encourages every new cadet to adjust to life on campus.

To support these goals, all students at R-MA are bound by the Honor Code which promotes honesty, mutual trust, and respect for others. We value our students as young adults and give them the space to act in accordance with that responsibility. Both inside and outside of the classroom, our students are given opportunities to demonstrate their character and learn from the integrity of one another in a close-knit community. By instilling these values from a young age, R-MA encourages the development of strong, resilient, and ethically-minded young adults.

2. Teaching Students to Rise to New Challenges

The modern world presents numerous challenges, both personal and professional. What matters is the way we respond to those challenges and learn from their outcomes. Students at our preparatory school are taught the value of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The Power of Rise is a mindset at R-MA that encourages students to take risks, to succeed, and to fail. In the process, they learn that striving for excellence brings its own sense of accomplishment.

To find success in any area of life, determination and resilience – even in the face of hardship – are essential. Students at R-MA develop this mentality as a community, supporting each other and celebrating the drive towards excellence. As a result, students graduate from R-MA with confidence in their abilities, a goal-oriented mindset, and a drive to apply their skills towards positive change.

3. Fostering Discipline and Structure

The curriculum at R-MA is one of academic rigor and innovation. From Advanced Placements courses to Pre-Professional Pathways to robotics, flight, and drone programs, there are numerous opportunities for students to hone their work ethic in a challenging environment. Courses at R-MA demand critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and determination. To succeed in these areas, students learn essential skills just as time management, study techniques, and structure when it comes to planning. A combination of classroom theory and experiential learning gives students the chance to test those skills in practice.

Extra-curricular activities, including sport, music, and drama, serve as further lessons in the value of self-discipline and perseverance for achieving one’s goals. By fostering the right approach to their studies, students develop lifelong skills that will push them toward success in all their endeavors.
