It might have taken Elias Lisle of Hingham, MA, a bit of time to convince his parents to let him fly, but once he did, there was no going back. Lisle began flying in November 2013, shortly after starting as a sophomore at Randolph-Macon Academy, a boarding school in Virginia that offers an optional flight program for students. A year later, he flew his first solo flight. This year, as a senior, he earned his private pilot certification at Front Royal-Warren County Airport on May 25, 2016, just three days before graduating from Randolph-Macon.

On the bright, clear morning of April 15, 2016, Jared Keefe achieved his longtime dream of flying solo in an airplane, completing three successful takeoffs and landings at Front Royal/Warren County Airport. Jared, a sophomore at Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) in Front Royal, is the son of Gabriel and Tammy Faath of Williamsburg, VA, and Richard and Karelyn Keefe of Sebring, FL.

During the summer flying session Ms. Abraham and I take two students at a time for flight lessons in the morning and afternoon. One student takes the controls for the first half of the flight block while the other students sits back seat to observe. Destinations are generally further from Front Royal, our home airport, due to the tandem training approach.

With summer school winding down, the flight camp students are embarking on their long flight trips to the destinations of their choice. Recently, four of the students took their trips and brought back some spectacular photos!
