The Alumni Association Board of Directors (AABOD) serves the entire R-MA alumni community, strengthening engagement both with the Academy and among the alumni body. The AABOD also ensures that the Alumni Association’s resources are effectively applied in concert with its stated purposes, and is the final authority for the approval of the Association’s annual budget.
Nominations and elections to the AABOD occur annually and are formally announced at the Alumni Association Meeting during Homecoming.
AABOD OFFICERS, 2023-24
Bryan is a 1984 graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy. During his two years on The Hill, he was on the student council and the swim team, managed the football team, and was deputy Corps Commander his senior year. After graduation, Bryan attended Radford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Bryan started his professional career in broadcasting, working at radio and television stations in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. After anchoring and reporting in television news for more than 15 years, he joined Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) as special events and marking manager.
Today Bryan is the corporate director, Enterprise Communications, at HII, the parent company of NNS. He serves as president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors at Randolph-Macon Academy and is a former Board member of the Hampton Roads chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He lives in Norfolk Virginia, close to the Virginia Beach home of his mother and father, Betty and Dave Moore, a 1953 graduate of R-MA and former Trustee.
Emma’s leadership journey began at Randolph-Macon Academy, where she served as the corps commander. Emma graduated Summa Cum Laude from Norwich University in 2020 with a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and minors in mathematics and leadership studies. She was a member of the honors program and completed undergraduate research in neuroscience specializing in Alzheimer’s disease and the effects of amyloid beta relating to calcium production and transfer within neurons. She was also selected by the National Council of Undergraduate Research to present her research at their national conference. At Norwich, Emma was one of the top four ranked cadets and became battalion commander. In that role, she was responsible for leading 800 cadets, including planning training exercises, maintaining the well-being and day-to-day efficiency of four companies, and providing weekly briefings to the regimental command staff.
While completing her master’s degree, she worked full-time as the sole design and manufacturing engineer for a steel fabrication plant, and then as a project manager for an industrial refrigeration manufacturer, where she was responsible for coordinating inspections, purchasing, and delivery of material for 15 facilities. She received her MBA with an emphasis on project management from Norwich University in 2022. She now works for the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
Jay is a 1974 graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy. He subsequently attended and holds degrees from Hampden-Sydney College, Vanderbilt University, and Old Dominion University. He is now retired, after a career in Healthcare and Higher Education Finance and Administration. Jay is lives in Stephens City, Virginia with his wife, Teri.

R-MA Class of 1987. Great-Grandfather, Edwin Scott Martin, class of 1896 (Bedford). BS degree in finance from Longwood College. 28 years’ experience in risk assessment and insurance management for different sized schools, colleges, and private businesses. Past president of the R-MA Alumni Association; first became active in 1996.
Shelly Y. (Barr) Kats graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy in 1993 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. After earning her degree, Shelly went on to work in finance for HSBC. When she married her husband, Dr. Yevgeny Kats, she left the banking industry to work with her husband at his multiple doctor practice by serving as billing manager. As a second-generation graduate of R-MA following in her father’s footsteps, Shelly was thrilled to enroll her daughter Yiannah at Randolph-Macon Academy and watch her carry on a legacy of academic excellence.
Stephen (Steve) is a 1986 graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy. During his four years on The Hill, he was in the Band (1st Trombone under Director Ed Richards) and was the Executive Officer for Band Squadron his senior year. After graduation, Steve attended the University of Mary Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design in 1991.
Steve started his professional career in Media Services splicing video crash test footage for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety until he realized how much he enjoyed learning and supporting their computer systems. Soon after, Steve began his future career in Information Technology focusing on infrastructure and network engineering working for government contractors, private companies, non-profits, and creating his own IT company – MillerTEK LLC.
During Steve’s 25 years of work, he has also focused on creating artwork known as “Virtual Silkscreens” and enjoys being an avid collector of signed books and vintage vinyl records.
He currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Melinda and their Golden Retriever, Carter.
Bo Snitchler is a 2006 graduate of R-MA and currently works at Booz Allen Hamilton where he consults with clients on emerging technologies and sustainment of the U.S. Navy’s surface fleet. Over his career, he has served in number of roles in support of the Navy and DoD, and prior to his current position, was an international engagement analyst supporting DoD emerging technology partnerships with NATO nations. Bo holds a Bachelor’s in International Business and Management from Dickinson College and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from University of Missouri. Bo joined the AABOD in 2011 and served as president from 2017-2021. He currently lives in Silver Spring, MD with his wife and son.
